Martin Mere was formed at the end of the last ice age, when water filled a depression in the glacial drift. Since then, its size has varied as water levels have risen and fallen.
WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre covers 600 acres. Fungi flourish, falling leaves make kingfishers easier to spy and there’s the awesome sight of thousands of pink-footed geese coming back to the mere for the winter.
