- **Event Description**: If you have visited a museum exhibit or read a book about the Indigenous peoples of Florida, it is certain you have seen Theodore de Bry’s iconic 1591 engravings of the Timucua. The images are thought to be based on paintings by Jacques le Moyne, a French colonist in northeast Florida 1564-1565. But are they? Dr. Milanich hopes to solve the 435-year-old mystery in his illustrated lecture. He will also comment on the historic mound located along the Halifax River in central Ormond Beach. Its history, too, is not what it seems.

This lecture is FREE but registration is requested as seats are limited.

𝑨𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒓: An internationally-recognized archaeologist and historian of Native cultures, Dr. Jerald T. Milanich is the Curator Emeritus of Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida. He's authored more than 20 books on the Indigenous peoples of the southeastern United States and their interactions with Europeans. He has received numerous lifetime achievement awards from professional archaeological and historical organizations and was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
