First opened in 1976 as The Café San Marcos, the venue was rebranded in 1992 as The Café and has since become a celebrated icon of nightlife and community in the district.Since 1976, an estimated 2 million people have danced, celebrated, and created memories at The Café, together accounting for nearly 5 million visits, each one a testament to the bar’s enduring legacy in the community. Following its most recent remodel, The Café has solidified its status as the Castro’s go-to nightlife destination.
