Emilly Prado is the author of the essay collection Funeral for Flaca (Future Tense Books, 2021), a #YosiBookClub summer reading pick called, “Utterly vulnerable, bold, and unique,” by Ms. Magazine and a "gorgeous debut" that "celebrates the beauty of self-definition" by Bitch Media. She is the daughter of a Mexican immigrant and first-generation Mexican American with roots in Michoacán, Mexico, the San Francisco Bay Area, and now Portland, Oregon where she calls home. When not writing or teaching, Emilly moonlights as DJ Mami Miami with Noche Libre, the Latinx DJ collective she co-founded in 2017. She is also a Blackburn Fellow and MFA candidate at Randolph College, a Tin House and Las Dos Brujas Workshop alumna, and the former Director of Youth Programs at Literary Arts.
