Discover the art of woodcarving in a hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop at the Women’s Shed.
Join us on 21 March 2026 for a 3-hour introductory whittling experience led by skilled local artisan Garry Iles of West Coast Whittling. Learn traditional techniques, work with real tools and materials, and create your own handcrafted timber piece to take home. This relaxed, supportive session is designed for all skill levels and is perfect for anyone wanting to try something new, build confidence, and enjoy a creative, community-based experience.
What: Experience woodcarving with this 3-hour introductory whittling workshop and take-home creation.
When: Saturday 21 March 10am-1pm
Where: The Shed - 27 Birchington Street, Beckenham
Who: Suitable for all women 18+
Facilitator: Garry Iles, the skilled hands behind West Coast Whittling. Garry transforms raw timber into beautifully handcrafted pieces, blending tradition with coastal character.
Price: GWC Members $50 includes all tools and materials. Non-members $110.
Catering: Tea and coffee included. Bottled water and soft drinks $2 each.
Parking: Free parking is available inside our main gate, along the street, or in the vacant lot beside the premises. **Please leave the top 4 bays for toy library patrons
Other Information: Member induction required to participate. If you haven't completed your induction, please allow 30 minutes prior to the first workshop to complete.
Participants to wear long pants and enclosed shoes.
