Margam: The Sacred Path by Jayanthi Raman Dance Company is a captivating Bharatha Natyam dance production that celebrates the timeless journey of this revered Indian classical art form. Following the traditional Margam format, the performance unfolds as a spiritual and artistic progression from invocation to joyful culmination. Through expressive storytelling, intricate rhythm, and graceful movement, the dancers bring to life themes of devotion, beauty, and human emotion. Rooted in centuries-old tradition while resonating with contemporary audiences, the production showcases the depth and elegance of Bharatanatyam. Margam: The Sacred Path is an inspiring tribute to India’s rich cultural heritage and the transformative power of dance.

About the Performer-Choreographer:

Jayanthi Raman is a classical Indian dance performer, master artist, and choreographer whose contemporary approach to classicism is provocative in our cultural environment. She has an extensive and impressive critically acclaimed career spanning over four decades.

Raman has become a recognized persona, known as a ‘cultural treasure, ‘world-class dancer,’ and ‘scholar’ according to Oregonian DANCE Magazine. She has a strong reputation as the Gold standard of Indian dance in the Northwest. Using the Indian classical dance form Bharatha Natyam as the starting point for her exploration, Raman creates thought-provoking work and performances. Her enthusiasm to take risks and explore unpredictable and complex movements has established her as an exciting and groundbreaking choreographer in the United States.
