- **Event Description**: Two of the most prominent historians of war, Margaret MacMillan (“War: How Conflict Shaped Us”) and Rick Atkinson (“The British Are Coming: The War for America, Lexington to Princeton, 1775-1777”), will be in conversation with philanthropist David M. Rubenstein.

Margaret MacMillan is professor of history at the University of Toronto and an emeritus professor of international history at Oxford University. She was provost of Trinity College, Toronto, in 2002-2007 and Warden of St. Antony’s College, Oxford, in 2007-2017. She is currently a trustee of the Central European University and the Imperial War Museum. Her research specializes in British imperial history and the international history of the 19th and 20th centuries. Publications include "Paris, 1919, Nixon and Mao" and "The War that Ended Peace." Awards include the Samuel Johnson prize for nonfiction and the Governor-General’s literary award.

Rick Atkinson, who spent nearly 15 years working on his World War II trilogy, was a staff writer and senior editor at The Washington Post for 25 years. He is the author of “The Long Gray Line,” “Crusade,” “In the Company of Soldiers” and the best-selling Liberation Trilogy: “An Army at Dawn,” “The Day of Battle” and “The Guns at Last Light.” A winner of Pulitzer prizes for history and journalism, he has also won many other awards, including the George Polk Award and the Pritzker Military Library Literature Award. Atkinson’s recent book is “The British Are Coming: The War for America, Lexington to Princeton, 1775-1777.”
