Trauma Informed Support through a Person-Centered Lens - Virtual Classroom
The amount of people with intellectual disabilities who have experienced trauma is staggering. Whether a person can communicate their past trauma or not, we should assume trauma has occurred and approach our support with this perspective in mind. This workshop will provide a view of trauma from the perspective of the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. It will explore the sources of trauma, the effects of that trauma on both a biological and psychological level and the key ingredients for healing. This curriculum was developed by Dr. Karyn Harvey, Clinical Psychologist and PhD in Applied Developmental Psychology from University of Maryland.
