About this Event

The Rise and Fall of Public Art is an exciting new programme that explores how Northern Ireland has used public art to address our history of conflict.

Ever seen a piece of public art and thought you could do better than that?

Ever been impressed when looking at a public sculpture?

Ever questioned the art that appears in public spaces around you?

Led by the Linen Hall Library, this online programme is an educational yet light hearted look at what goes into commissioning a piece of public art.

How will the programme work?

-- Artist and facilitator Lesley Cherry will discuss the good, the bad and the ugly in terms of public art in Northern Ireland including corporate commissions, community led projects and political statements.

-- Conceptual artist Deirdre Robb will talk about how art is commissioned and present approaches to public art, re-imaging and artist in residence programmes

-- Take part in a creative workshop to learn how to create your own artistic response and submit your ideas

-- You will join an online community hosted in Slack to share ideas and spark conversation

This programme is FREE and open to anyone based in Northern Ireland or border counties. Numbers are limited. Sign up early to avoid disappointment.

The programme will take place at 10.30am on: 15th July, 16th July, 21st July, 23rd July.

Making the Future and its project partners would like to share information and imagery from the programme through social media to highlight ongoing progress and to showcase the good work. This may involve sharing screenshots of online meetings and examples of the content being created. Any content shared will be credited to its creator. By signing up to this programme you consent to content being shared on social media.
