Certified Agile Leadership

Leadership is all about navigating a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous (VUCA) world. Successful leaders learn how to assess and pivot, often to meet the changing needs of the customer and the world.

The CAL program consists of three foundational certification courses: CAL Essentials, CAL for Teams, and CAL for Organizations. To master these skills, take two prerequisite foundational courses, then progress onto CAL II® which features a blend of validated practice, advanced education and peer-driven workshops.

Over the past four years, Scrum Alliance has gathered feedback from students and as a result, adapted what was the Certified Agile Leadership (CAL I®) program to be more effective. What was a two-day class is now broken out into three focused one-day modules:

• Agile Leadership Essentials (CAL-E®)
• Agile Leadership for Teams (CAL-T®)
• Agile Leadership for Organizations (CAL-O®)

CERTIFIED AGILE LEADERSHIP - ESSENTIALS® (CAL-E®)

This module teaches you the basic skills necessary to become an effective Agile leader. CAL-Essentials is very much about exploring “you as a Leader”, leading in a VUCA world (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex & Ambiguous), and how to lead from a position of influence.

Leaders today are striving to stay on top of rapidly changing business needs and are coming to understand that the ability to respond and adapt quickly is increasingly important. You are now required to shift the way you think about your role as a leader, your relationship with your employees, and the culture of your organization.

Agile Leaders are flexible and capable of leading across cultures, generations, and geographies. Agile Leaders focus on building self-organizing, self-managing teams, setting a vision, and supporting the team as they produce amazing results. We explore the mindset shift required for successful Agile Leadership and how self-awareness, social awareness, and situational awareness are critical for a leadership role. Leadership Agility is especially important in uncertain times to help teams and organizations grow.

CERTIFIED AGILE LEADERSHIP - TEAMS® (CAL-T®)

This module helps build strong leaders who can use their unique strengths for the betterment of the whole. CAL-Teams continues your leadership journey looking at ways to influence culture and support your teams on their journey to becoming High Performing teams. It explores the multiple facets of your leadership role around mentoring and coaching as well as challenges you may face as you scale Agility in your organization. It looks at ways to be engaged with your team without micromanaging and using metrics that support your team’s growth. You will leave this workshop with a better understanding of what it takes to lead a fully functional Agile team and organization.

Agile teams require an alternative to the traditional leadership approaches of the past in order to navigate this volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous world. This course teaches you how to create a safe-to-fail environment and foster a culture of transparency, inspection, and adaptation to allow for experimentation and continuous learning within your teams. The goal of this course is to create awareness about the changing dynamics in today's world of work and equip leaders with the practices they need to lead their teams with agility.

CERTIFIED AGILE LEADERSHIP - ORGANIZATIONS® (CAL-O®)

The module brings awareness to the practices and principles of agility and how they apply to business/organizational agility. Through case studies and various models, participants will gain insight into how agile will and can work for their teams and organization.

Business leaders are now required to shift the way that they think about their organizational culture and employees and become change agents. In this module, participants will gain knowledge, skills, and techniques that will help them to work toward sustainable agility for their organizations.

REQUIREMENTS

Pre-requisites for the Foundational modules of CAL®:

• Leadership experience is essential
• Participants will get the most from this program if currently holding a leadership role
• Access to a computer with a working webcam and the ability to run Zoom and Mural applications

Led by our expert Agile trainers, this virtual, online leadership experience delivers the quality you’ve come to expect from Capala Consulting Group from the convenience of your desktop or laptop. This virtual training meets the learning objectives of the Scrum Alliance Certified Agile Leadership Essentials®.

Graduates will receive CAL-E®, CAL-T® and CAL-O® certification.

• Coaches/Consultants. Your challenge is to help clients navigate an agile transformation with a focus on the people and mindsets necessary to shift the culture. A CAL certification provides you the tools to help enact change and distinguishes you in the field as someone who has acquired the defined knowledge of an agile leader.

Anu is the President and Founder of Capala Consulting Group, LLC where she specializes in Executive coaching and Agile Transformations. She is also an Enterprise Agile Coach and Certified Scrum Trainer® - providing education and coaching, consulting services to clients across the United States. An IT professional with over 25 years of industry experience, Anu holds a Master’s degree in Psychology from Osmania University in India and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University, Ohio.

Anu has extensive experience with large scale agile transformations, integral to the success of the likes of Capital One through her training and coaching expertise. She has specialized in leadership coaching and large group facilitation. Anu has established internal agile coaching Centers of Excellence for several clients to allow self-sustained coaching of their agile transformations. She has developed a coaching program specifically designed for evolving organizational leaders. Anu speaks frequently at conferences both nationally and internationally on Agile Leadership, Product Ownership, Coaching, and Group Facilitation Techniques.

Anu is passionate about coaching and training others, dedicated to helping to achieve professional and personal success. She has also committed to improving the agile community through several activities. She is an active member of the larger Scrum and Agile community and enjoys giving back via volunteering at various conferences.

Kate Megaw is the Founder and CEO of ARCLight Agile where she specializes in working with organizations on their #JourneytoAgility. She helps teams on their journey to empowerment and collaboration, to achieve faster decision making and therefore a focus on customers and their rapidly changing needs. Kate works with leaders throughout the organization, regardless of department, to create a more agile approach to leadership that encourages innovation, flexibility, and empowered teams, allowing organizations to achieve their purpose.

Kate is a dynamic Certified Scrum Trainer (CST), Project Management Professional (PMP), and Certified Team Coach (CTC), with over 20 years working in Education, Operations, Project Management, IT, and Consulting.

With her finely honed communication and presentation abilities, complemented by strong planning, organizational and people management skills, Kate is a popular speaker at events. She is a motivator and encourager and is happiest when she breaks through to a client and leads them to the ‘aha’ moment.

Before moving to the United States, Kate received her bachelor’s degree in Information Management from the Queen’s University of Belfast in Northern Ireland.
