This workshop is an opportunity to become better allies to Black youth. It will discuss racism, how it affects people of color, and how it shapes the minds of our youth. It is also a form to discuss the clinical basis of trauma and how it leaves lasting effects on the mind, including how trauma biochemically changes our genes, health, and lifespan. Connections between racism and trauma will be discussed, including how these factors influence livelihood of Black youth. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to discuss the effects of racism and trauma on the mental and physical well-being of Black youth, as well as, coping strategies and best practices.
