About this Event

Do you have picky eaters? Are you looking for ways to make mealtime easier, or for activities to keep kids entertained? This class with Cooking Matters will help you K*ll two birds with one stone by getting children involved in making snacks and meals, making it easier for them to try new foods and giving them tasks to help at mealtime.

In this lesson, we will prepare caregivers to work together with kids in their care to discuss safe, age-appropriate tasks for kids in the kitchen, practice preparing meals or snacks with child-friendly steps, and make healthy meals and snacks that everyone will enjoy.

Every Cooking Matters lesson is interactive and discussion based. Please come prepared to participate by speaking up or chatting in! We will also be preparing a recipe during class, which will be shared with you in the confirmation email. You are encouraged to join us by cooking with us from your own space!

*** This class is intended for Colorado residents, and particularly caregivers of kids age 0-5.

Homemade Granola

Serving Size

Serves 9, 1/3 cup per serving


4 Tablespoons honey

2 Tablespoons canola oil

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats

4 Tablespoons sliced or chopped almonds

Non-stick cooking spray

½ cup dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, apricots, dates, or prunes)


Baking sheet


Large bowl

Measuring cups

Measuring spoons

Medium bowl

Nutritional Information


Preheat oven to 350°F.

In a large bowl, add honey, oil, and cinnamon. Whisk with a fork.

Add oats and almonds. Stir until well-coated with honey mixture.

Coat a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Spread oat mixture evenly onto sheet.

Bake until lightly browned, about 10–15 minutes. Stir every 5 minutes to cook evenly. Watch closely to be sure granola does not burn. Remove from oven. Let cool completely.

Transfer cooled granola to a medium bowl. Stir in dried fruit.
