The Healthy Lifestyle Program is a 12-week program that includes nutrition education, cooking demonstrations, and optional exercise classes for individuals registered with UCF CARD 18+ years of age.
The program will start Tuesday, September 22 and meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00pm-1:45pm for cooking/nutrition and 2:00pm-2:30pm for exercise, if elected, same days. The program will include:
NUTRITION EDUCATION - include optimal eating on a budget, understanding portion sizes, and interpreting nutrition labels. Participants will learn to make snacks and meals based on their food preferences and budgets.
COOKING DEMENSTRATIONS- demonstrations for a variety of meals will be recorded and provided for participants to follow on their own at their convenience.
MEAL PREPARATION- participants will be provided with recipes to prepare meals on their own and share virtually with the group. Needed ingredients will be delivered to participants to prepare the meal via a delivery service.
EXERCISE (optional)- an exercise instructor will introduce participants to a variety of exercises, with no special equipment necessary. Exercise sessions will focus on strength training, flexibility/stretching, and aerobic fitness. Participants will also be exercise can be fun, anytime, anywhere throughout the day. Exercise sessions will be 30 minutes if elected. Those that participate in the exercise portion will receive a tracking device to monitor and report exercise habits.
SESSIONS- will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, with nutrition/cooking sessions held from 1 – 1:45pm and exercise sessions held from 2 – 2:30pm. Sessions will begin Tuesday, September 22, 2020 for 12 weeks with no sessions on Thanksgiving week.
