Saturday 28 NOV 9:30am-4:30pm UK time, online
We are very happy to welcome Jake Dartington to lead this day long online retreat for Oxford Insight Mediation. The session will include guided meditations, dharma talks, and an opportunity to ask questions about your practice. The day runs from 9:30am until roughly 4:30pm and will include a lunch break of at least 1 hour. The session is suitable for beginners as well as those with experience of meditation practice.
Jake Dartington has practised Buddhist meditation since 1995. After training as a Dharma teacher with Christina Feldman, he started teaching in 2007. He has a background in Philosophy and Buddhist Studies and has trained as a teacher of MBSR/MBCT. Jake lives in Nottingham where he teaches mindfulness and Insight Meditation.
Dana: teachings through generosity. In the spirit of the Insight meditation tradition, our teachers offer their teaching for free and we invite you to make a 'dana' donation to support them in continuing to offer their teachings in this way.
To make a donation to Jake please go to https://gaiahouse.co.uk/support-us/, then choose 'teacher dana' and add in the notes when making the payment that the dana is for 'Jake Dartington'
We are currently not able to support donations to our teachers through Eventbrite.
Donating to Oxford Insight Meditation Registration for this online event is free and we invite you to offer dana to our teachers to support their work and livelihood (see above). However, in addition, when you register for our online events there is an opportunity to make a donation to Oxford insight Meditation (OIM). We are seeking donations to help cover our operating costs (which are reduced in an online world, but still accumulate). Suggested donation is £1-£5.
As we are inviting you to make a donation to support the work of OIM in these difficult times, rather than a booking fee for the retreat, we are not offering refunds. However, we can issue a refund if you prefer.
Insight Meditation is a simple technique derived directly from the teachings of the Buddha, which has been practised for over 2,500 years. The practice leads to the development of concentration, fearlessness, happiness and a loving heart. The practice begins by calming the mind, usually through resting attention on the sensations of breathing. Through being present in each moment, our heart and mind can awaken to a depth of peace and clarity which allows grasping, judgement and fear to fall away.
All are welcome We are committed to creating an inclusive retreat space. We welcome people irrespective of religious or political beliefs, ethnicity, class, sexuality, gender, age, ability and culture.
Zoom Link The Zoom link will be emailed, to the email address that you gave on registration, roughly 1 week before the retreat and again on the morning of the retreat.
