Taught by Rabbi Nathan Kamesar, this course via Zoom invites everyone, from those who are new to Judaism to those for whom Judaism has been present their entire lives, to take a comprehensive, piece-by-piece approach to understanding and living with fundamental elements of Jewish life. We explore the Jewish holidays (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Hanukkah, Passover, and more); life cycle events (B’nai Mitzvah, wedding, funeral); key theological ideas (God, commandments, justice and injustice); central historical events (the Holocaust, the founding of the State of Israel); Jewish literature; and more.
It’s like Judaism 101, only it’s not simply the basics; it’s taking the basics and asking how we can make meaning of these ancient and ever flourishing cornerstones of our tradition and have them inform our lives to help lift us up as well as those around us.
The course centers around readings and facilitated dialogue and conversation with open-mindedness toward a wide range of viewpoints and backgrounds.
