Rita Wright will highlight the history of the building and expansion of Notre Dame Cathedral. She will also discuss the artworks and relics, and its recovery, like a phoenix, from the recent fire.

Rita Wright is recently retired as the Director of the Springville Museum of Art in Springville, Utah. The Museum’s collection focuses on Utah art with smaller collections of American and Russian art. She came to the Museum in October of 2012 from the LDS Church History Museum in Salt Lake City, Utah where she was the Curator of Art and Artifacts for two years. As Curator she was responsible for acquiring new art works and for developing new exhibitions. Her primary emphasis was on religious art education.

Prior to her time in the Church History Department Rita was the Academic Programs Coordinator for Museum Education at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art (MOA)where she worked for eight years. Before that she taught the Humanities History of Civilization courses at BYU for seven years. She received her Ph.D. at the University of Utah in European History with Ancient and Art History minors. Her dissertation subject focused on Victorian ritualism as it was manifested in the fine arts of the period. She has an undergraduate degree in Theatre and Film, and a Masters degree in Humanities from Brigham Young University.

Rita serves on numerous local, state and national boards including: Board Chair, Office of Museum Services (OMS), Utah State Division of Arts and Museums, Executive Board Member, Utah Non-Profits Association (UNA), Utah County Tax and Tourism Commission Board Member, Board member, Utah Chapter, Institute of Classical Architecture and Art (ICAA), Springville City Arts Commission, Staff advisor.
