• Wed Aug 26 12:30-1:00 Virtual Storytime
Join former library worker and children’s literacy whiz, Livita Curcio, for a storytime tailored to the interests of children ages 4-8. Livita will read a selection of stories to inspire the imaginations of your whole family!
• Fri Aug 28 12:00-1:00 Cookie Decorating Class (pictured above!)
Learn how to decorate sugar cookies with royal icing with a variety of seasonal designs. This video call will teach you how to ice cookies, layer colours and add other decorations to your sweet treats. If you'd like to follow along, recipes to make the cookies and icing will provided ahead of time. Basic ingredients needed include: flour, sugar, butter, icing sugar, food colouring and meringue powder (available at Bulk Barn).
• Mon Sept 14 2:00-3:00 Standing-out & Succeeding in Job Interviews
Do you want to improve your chances of success at your next job interview? Do you want to learn more ideas on how to positively distinguish yourself in job interviews? Do you want to learn ideas on how to make job interviews less stressful? At this LIVE session, ADM Cordelia Clarke Julien will share her perspectives on these questions and more, and you will have an opportunity to discuss your questions about job interviews.
• Fri Sept 18 4:00-5:00 Italian Inspirations Pastry Class
Start your weekend off learning to make a rustic fruit crostata with a vanilla chantilly cream from OGS’ master baker, Inayat Singh (@pricklypearbaking). Crostata is an Italian pie using a short-crust pastry, preserves and fruit, similar to a galette. Transform your favourite seasonal Ontario fruit into an elegant dessert. No special equipment needed.
• Wed Sept 23 12:30-1:00 Plant Doula
Join MMAH’s very own plant doula, Amanda Judd, for a session on how to help your houseplants thrive. Learn the basics of light, water and soil needs, how to spot common issues before it’s too late, how to propagate and when to re-pot, and next steps for upping your plant game. You’ll be able to ask live questions (bring your problem plants on the call!) and get lots of resources for further learning.
• Thurs Sept 24 10:00-11:00 Stoic Breathwork Session
In this 60-minute class with trained facilitator, Stevan Beattie, you will learn to use your breath to achieve a deep state of meditation. Start with a simple observation of breath and notice a shift away from the distractions of your mind to become aware of the subtle rhythms of your body. Taking control of your breath helps reduce stress, boost creativity and improve physical performance.
• Tues Sept 29 12:30-1:00 Grammar and Punctuation Bootcamp
Do you find yourself in the middle of writing a correspondence letter, wondering whether “who” or “whom” is the correct choice? Or maybe, while working on a briefing note, you’ve started to wonder whether your sentence needs a comma, a colon, or a semicolon? This grammar and punctuation refresher with Sabrina Froese is designed to help you tackle tricky grammar issues so you can feel more confident in your writing abilities.
• Thurs Oct 1 10:00-11:00 Going the Distance Cardio Conversation
MMAH’s very own amateur athletes tell their stories about their love of distance exercise and sport and why they ‘go the distance’. Presenters Darren Cooney, A.J. Pittis and Ari Caylakyan will share the story of their athletic journeys, what inspires and motivates them, the challenges and benefits and suggestions for those who want to follow their own athletic path.
• Tues Oct 6 10:00-11:00 Tips for Camping and Glamping
Gather around the virtual campfire to hear stories from Annette Nazareth and Miranda Borisenko from the Housing Programs Branch. Annette will share her experiences of camping in Ontario with her family, favourite places, planning, tips and stories. Miranda will share her story of a 5-day solo hiking trip into the interior of Killarney Provincial Park (BC “before children”) including, planning, lessons learned and the personal journey that accompanied this adventure.
