This interactive 4-week workshop series is hosted by Drs. Christina Contrastano and Michelle Drapkin, two licensed clinical psychologists (and parents!) from the CBT Center of Central NJ!
This workshop’s goal is to offer you support, connection, and a toolbox of practical techniques informed by the latest research that you can start using immediately to struggle less, get through hard times, and find the joy in parenting.
Over the course of four weeks, we will:
Heads up! You will get the most out of the experience if you have your cameras on and participate. This workshop is designed to be interactive and experiential to help you learn the skills most effectively.
Believe it or not, you got this! We hope this workshop will help you connect with your strengths and see the value you bring to your family.
Our first week is all about figuring out what matters to us as parents, so we can intentionally choose where to put our time and attention. We will learn how to be more present in our lives, as well as how to develop a daily mindfulness practice (which is doable, even as busy parents!)
In week 2, we will learn how to unhook from sticky, unhelpful thoughts and identify our parenting monsters (inner voices). We will learn tools to help us see our thoughts for what they are….thoughts…that don’t have to control our behaviors.
Week 3 is all about feelings! Yours and your kids! Learn how to be more aware of your feelings and have your feelings without them having you! We’ll learn a little bit about our brains and how to calm and ground ourselves, so that we can bring our kids into our calm and not join their chaos. Also learn the importance of validation and how to connect to your kids while also setting limits.
You likely have everyone else’s back, but what about your own? Parenting is tough and we often put our own needs last. In our final week, come learn how taking care of yourself is a vital part of taking care of your kids. There’s no perfect parent and we all make mistakes in our parenting journey. Learn ways to accept our mistakes and imperfections and hold ourselves accountable with kindness, rather than self criticism.
