Welcome to registration for the 2021 Utah State University Extension Master Gardener Program. Come learn and grow with us as you make new friends, learn lots of amazing things, gain new skills, and get involved in cool gardening projects in the area! The course fee includes the Utah Master Gardener Manual.
The Master Gardener program develops a network of trained volunteers who provide Utah communities with unbiased, research-based horticultural education and technical assistance in gardening and home horticulture. You'll receive 14 weeks of college-level lecture and hands-on training workshops taught by Utah State University Extension Specialists and Extension Faculty in the following areas:
· Basic Botany
· Soils and Fertilizers
· Fruits and Vegetables
· Trees, Shrubs and Flowers
· W**d Science
· Integrated Pest Management
· Landscape Design
In addition to the classwork, students are required to provide a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service back to their community to receive their certificate. Most participants in Utah county complete their service hours at Thanksgiving Point on various activities such as helping maintain the Learning Garden or working on any of several volunteer crews in Ashton Gardens. More details on volunteering will be covered during the class. Other opportunities are available within Utah County, and participants are allowed to develop their own volunteer project, with approval from the project coordinator.

IF PERMITTED as per COVID-19 guidelines, a hands-on seed starting class and a pruning class will be included with the program, with dates and times announced in class. Due to the uncertain nature of dealing with COVID-19, we are planning on being able to offer the class in a way that will satisfy community social-distancing guidelines as necessary. This means we MAY offer the class in the following formats, or combinations thereof: live in-person classes (preferred method), hybrid classes (alternating in-class with online learning or broadcast classes), and strictly online broadcast (through Zoom). Registrants will be notified how the class will end up being delivered before classes begin.
This 14-week course includes a comprehensive manual. The manual can be mailed ($15 postage and handling fee, and sent on an as-needed basis by calling the Utah County Extension Office) or picked up in person at Thanksgiving Point. Details about book pickup and meeting locations will be emailed closer to when the class starts. For now, here is what we know:
