About this Event

While London has over 3,000 public parks, it's hard to surpass the beauty and prestige of its Royal ones. But how did these green spaces go from grassy "playgrounds" reserved exclusively for Britain's kings and queens, to parks accessible to all? It's time to uncover the history and legacy of London's Royal Parks, along with their incredible secrets hiding in plain sight.

Join New York Adventure Club as we explore the Royal Parks of London, and how green spaces once reserved exclusively for British royal families eventually opened up and became some of Britain's most magnificent public parks.

Led by award winning London Blue Badge Tourist Guide David Drury, our virtual showcase of London’s Royal Parks — also referred to as ‘Lungs of London’ — will include:

  • An overview of London's Royal Parks and why they were constructed in the first place
  • A discussion of Greenwich Park, from being home to The Royal Observatory Winter Wonderland and landmark Great Exhibition of Hyde Park
  • Why the World’s oldest Zoological society, and beautiful Queen Mary Rose Garden, were established in Regents Park
  • The story behind the majestic herds of deer found throughout the vast rolling hills of Richmond Park
  • The importance of St James Park in sporting history
  • The Gothic splendor of Brompton Cemetery, one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ burial places built to combat the population explosion during the Victorian era

Afterward, we'll have a Q&A session with David — any and all questions about London's Royal Parks are welcomed and encouraged!
