The world-renowned pink city of Jaipur is one of the most fascinating experience for any traveller since its creation in the 18th century well recorded in books like the ‘Jaipurnama’ that provides different moments in Jaipur’s history through the vivid and detailed accounts of diverse travellers such as an Austrian Jesuit a French naturalist a court priest a city merchant and a pilgrim from Banaras.


The talk intends to take the audience on a journey of Jaipur through its bustling bazars and crafts streets grand monuments iconic garden spaces water bodies and landscape narrating some of the past royal tales along with the present flavour of its enriching living heritage with its glorious legacy. It will bring forth some of the lesser known facts about the creator Sawai Jai Singh II the passion that led him and his predecessors to build this grand city - which is one of the most favored international destination today.

Shikha Jain a conservation architect is a writer educator and partitioner with several published works on the cultural heritage of India. She has vast experience in cultural heritage that covers conservation projects across India. She has lead several projects funded by the Getty Foundation USA and the World Monuments Fund.

She was instrumental in achieving the UNESCO World Heritage Status for Jaipur City (2019) Hill Forts of Rajasthan (2013) and the Jantar Mantar Jaipur (2010) along with application for Jaipur as UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Arts in 2015.
