The Birth Network of Monterey County presents a free community parenting series called Parenting 101, or P101.
There are 7 classes in the P101 series:
Comfort in Birth 101
Birth Plans 101
Infant Feeding 101
Sleep and Soothing 101
These classes run Mondays year round on a 7 week cycle. Parents can pop in for one or come to all of them. These classes do not replace a comprehensive childbirth series, but they are a great jumping off point!

Childbirth 101: This class covers what to expect when your birthing day arrives, whether you want or are planning for an unmedicated birth, a medicated birth, or even a cesarean birth. Your will learn each unique stage of labor and what phases you may, or may not experience during your birthing time. This class is a nonjudgmental space to learn your options from a qualified childbirth educator.

Comfort in Birth 101: Come with whoever will be supporting you at your birth to learn all your comfort options. Your instructor will go over nonpharmaceutical comfort tools like aquatherapy, acupressure, and massage. You will also learn about pharmaceutical comfort measures like epidurals, nitrous oxide, and IV pain medication. Birth is not all or nothing, many families will use tools from both categories or may change their plans during the birth, this class will help you make the decisions that are best for you.

Birth Plans 101: While birth can be unpredictable, a birth plan can be an excellent tool to facilitate communication before, during, and after your birth. This class is designed for all expecting parents that want to remain an active participant in their birth. We do highly recommend you take Childbirth 101 and Comfort in Birth 101 before Birth Plans 101, but they are not require.

Doulas 101: Bring all of your questions about doulas! Your instructor will go over the types of doulas; what a doula does and does not do before, during, and after the birth of your baby; how doulas are different from your partner, doctor, midwife, and nurses; how to find the right doula for you if you decide to hire one; and many more topics about doula support.

Infant Feeding 101: This class covers breast/chestfeeding, donor milk feeding, and formula feeding. This class is designed to help families meet their personal infant feeding goals from a qualified instructor. Potential infant feeding struggles will be addressed, please bring all your questions! This class is appropriate for people who are pregnant or have already given birth.

Sleep and Soothing 101: Learn from a Certified Infant & Child Sleep Consultant who is trained in a variety of sleep coaching methods to help parents support their baby’s natural ability to sleep. This class is designed to help parents decide which method, or variety of methods, best fit their family’s values and needs.

Babywearing 101: Finding the right carrier and learning to use it correctly can make your baby's transition from life inside your womb to the outside world much easier on both of you. This class will introduce you to types of carriers and how each type should be used. We also have a large carrier lending library so you can try on different carriers, and for a monthly or annual fee, take one home to use.
