- **Event Description**: We look forward to welcoming education leaders from across the UK and the globe at our fifth  online open day.About this Event“Freedom” is what is said frequently when we ask what a greater playtime should feel like… so with the summer holidays in sight, that's the theme for our next exciting event…We’ll bring together researchers, school leaders and thinkers, and we hope lots of school leaders to ponder how we can ensure more children have freedom to play every day at school.This event is for headteachers and school leaders interested in both practical ideas and the research behind them; policy makers and educationalists who shape school days; dinner ladies, TAs, supervisors, forest school leads and parents -  and anyone interested in this often overlooked time of the day. Most of the research focuses on the primary age group (6-12), but much of our work is equally applicable to Key Stage 3 (11 - 14) and of course to Early Years.Speakers will include:Michael Follett, Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) CIC Founder and Director Introducing the OPAL Primary ProgrammeMore tbcEveryone will speak for 5-10 minutes and then we’ll have a half hour debate around the topics brought up around ‘wet play’ and supporting great play at playtime .What is the OPAL Primary Programme?OPAL is an award-winning programme that helps schools improve the quality of play opportunity for every child every day. It has been developed over the last 20 years by Michael Follett, previously a teacher, a playworker and a school’s advisor. The programme helps schools adopt the same strategic approach to the improvement of play as they would for literacy, maths or safeguarding. Over 500 schools worldwide have gone through the OPAL Primary Programme so far. Benefits they have all seen include improvements in children’s confidence, independence, resilience and happiness.
