Event Description

Join CIIS Expressive Arts faculty and astrologer Jill Therrien for a supportive workshop exploring creative approaches to self-care. Jill invites you to reconnect with yourself through a series of expressive arts practices that engage with the luminaries of astrology—the Sun and Moon.

From the perspective of astrology, the Sun and Moon are useful entry points to self reflection and relational connection. Expressive arts practices introduced in this workshop enhance this personal exploration through altar making, journaling, movement, and the opportunity to make a cosmic self-portrait.

Participants of this workshop also receive a digital zine created by Jill to highlight the workshop’s offerings. The movement section will be self-guided and gentle to accommodate varying abilities.

Please plan to have handy your preferred art-making materials to create your cosmic self portrait - anything from traditional drawing to digital collage will work well and experience in art-making is not required to participate. These preparations will set you up to gain an understanding of how to harness the energies of the Sun and Moon for grounding and connection and discover creative tools to both support and express yourself.

Jill K. Therrien (she/her) is an expressive arts therapist, educator, and intuitive astrologer. Jill has a private practice with a wide range of wellness services and professional consultation. She primarily sees clients looking for an alternative to traditional psychotherapy. Working from an integrative approach, Jill offers Narrative Expressive Arts Therapy from a Relational-Cultural therapeutic stance. She is also an intuitive astrologer who practices from a Hellenistic and Humanistic approach. She has a special interest in helping clients process interpersonal, collective, and intergenerational grief.

Jill is a licensed marriage and family therapist with the state of California, a registered expressive arts therapist with the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association, and an adjunct faculty member with the Expressive Arts Therapy Departments at the California Institute of Integral Studies and Lesley University. She is a proud member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and currently resides in the occupied homelands of the Anishinaabe people, commonly known as Kalamazoo, Michigan.
