- **Event Description**: This 8-day lab-course is aimed at the development of drawings and maps documenting incidences of violence endured by street vendors as a way to expose unethical illegal or unscrupulous practices in public space. Evidence of invisible wrongdoings that can be eventually used in the context of the defense of the rights of vulnerable citizens. 8-DAYS | ONLINE | INTERNATIONAL | LAB-COURSE  Starting on May 17th 2022 and ending on May 24th this 80-hour lab-course −a platform of both experimentation and skill development− will be conducted entirely online in English for anyone from all over the world and it will be organized in 5 consecutive modules: 1) Seminars 2) Site visits and independent research 3) Discussions and assessments 4) Independent developments and 5) Final public presentations. PREREQUISITES Prospective participants are required to have prior knowledge of AutoCAD Sketchup / Rhino and Illustrator (basic level) yet they can propose alternative drawing techniques before registering in order to expand the course purview. This pedagogic endeavor is otherwise open to anyone interested in the political role of designers and the use of design knowledge for the benefit of underrepresented social groups. SYLLABUS For many drawing is the agency of design. Is not only a way to communicate complex ideas in a comprehensive and straightforward manner but also an instrument to reimagine the world and anticipate future capacities. However given its condition as a specialized technique drawing in the context of design is usually valued as either an aesthetic commodity or an instructional device rarely serving as a tool to empower vulnerable or disenfranchised groups. The question of this course is situated precisely at this juncture: how can drawing be utilized as a tool of empowerment? Or rather how can it serve advocacy or activism outside the realms of design?Henceforward from this fundamental challenge we set to investigate the meaning of drawing as a contemporary craft in the intersection of mapping techniques that are both inquisitive and inventive. This inquest is set in the rapidly-changing contemporary city with a focus on recent public violence: we are thus interested in drawing and mapping practices of coercion against underrepresented groups that produce public space specifically street vendors. The aim of the course is to produce a series of maps that record incidences of violence towards citizens in order to document and construct an archive of hostilities that can be utilized by activists to speak truth to power. In order to do that participants will receive a series of lectures that will introduce them to certain relevant topics from which each will build on by incorporating pertinent research on the contexts they inhabit. This will be furthered through the selection of a case study in their cities of residence that exposes foul play in varying degrees injustice or unethical proceedings by control organisms (official or unofficial). These incidents will be recorded in great detail under the tutelage of CCA whilst exposing unethical illegal or unscrupulous practices by virtue of mapping and graphical developments.Participants will not only be introduced into this somewhat unexplored field of design-research practice -while developing drawing and mapping skills- but also will have the opportunity to encounter obscured realities on an immediate basis through reflective and informed assessments meant to produce specific results.Tutors: Kruti Shah and Sebastian Trujillo-Torres
