Drawing for Absolute Beginners. | Online Event | Drawing for Absolute Beginners.
This live online course will introduce you to the basics of drawing: mark-making, shapes, measuring, proportion, perspective, and tone.

About this Event

A drawing class for absolute beginners. You don't need any experience; it's designed to take you through the fourndations of drawing in simple steps with lots of encouragement.

This course is delivered in 3 sessions on Zoom online platform. Dates: Nov 18th, 25th and Dec 2nd 2020. TIme: 7p.m. to 9 p.m, GMT.

You will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions, get feedback on your drawings and share your learning with a small (maximum class size 8) group.

Do you often think ‘I wish I could draw like that’ on seeing someone else’s art work? Or want to see and appreciate more of the world around you? You want to create your own designs for embroidery, or you want to find your own visual ‘voice’? Drawing is a great way of doing all those things, and is a skill learnable by anyone with a little time.

What we'll cover:

  • Choosing and using media and paper,
  • Practise making a variety of marks to convey textures that you see, from grass to feathers to bark.
  • Practise drawing basic shapes.
  • How to see spaces in between things (the negative space).
  • How to measure and check for accuracy.

You'll also learn how to

  • make things look three-dimensional, including understanding one- and two -point perspective, and the effect of those on the scale of objects in your drawings.

There will be drawing games and experiments, with encouragement to be childlike in trying things out and discovering what’s possible, to develop your intuitive responses and a sense of play.

What You'll Need: Materials

  • A4 Sketchbook.
  • Graphite drawing pencils in different hardnesses and softnesses: H, B, 2B, 4B, 6B. Or you can buy a set with lots of grades in.
  • Good quality pencil sharpener.
  • A plastic eraser and some BluTak, white tack or an artist's putty rubber.
  • A fineline black drawing pen, or a biro.
  • For links to drawing materials, click here:

You could add these extra materials as we go through the course:

  • A tin of 12 watercolour coloured pencils, to brighten things up a bit
  • and a round brush, number 8 size
  • with a jam jar of water.

If you have any other wax crayons, oil pastels, etc, you can add them to the mix!
