The aim of ‘Death in a box’ is to provide viewers with insight into how art can destigmatize and unite people under the idea of death. Although it may feel uncomfortable, or something we want to distance ourselves from, we believe in the art to bring positivity and light to this tough topic.
How do we, as humans, deal with the death of life as well as the death of habits and normalcy? What culture and rituals exist surrounding death, burials, and grief? Can we use humour to heal and deal with the inexplicable pain of loss?
Historically, death has been illustrated and engaged differently throughout the years and around the world. From the dance macabre art movement in medieval times to the morbid fascination of death in the Victorian eras. Can we use these iconographies to further a positive and enlightened look on death and loss?
