Stuck inside? Looking for something to do? Love science? Come to our Citizen/Community Science Happy Hour and contribute to science remotely!
Grab a snack and a tasty beverage and hop on our Zoom meeting to learn about and participate in a variety of web-based citizen science projects. The basic format will be a quick intro mentioning the projects we're working on, followed by everyone picking a project and getting started on it. The moderator will pop in every 10-15 min or so to pose a question about what you're up to.
We rotate in new projects each happy hour, so if you have a favorite one you'd like us to feature, let us know! Here are a few of the projects we've featured so far:
You will need a device that can have Zoom open AND a project window open (via app or internet browser) at the same time. If you're on a mobile device, both iNaturalist and Zooniverse have apps you can download. Please create an account on iNaturalist and/or Zooniverse before the meeting starts. The host will be logging into the Zoom room 15 minutes early (4:45pm Eastern Time) to help anyone who is having access issues. If you think this might happen to you, please try to get into the room a few minutes ahead of the start time.
Now that the fall semester is happening, we'll be switching to once a month for our happy hours. Look for us on the 4th Wednesday of the month!
UPDATE:
September's Happy Hour will be all about making iNaturalist IDs, with a focus on the Macaulay BioBlitz observations. After September's Happy Hour, we'll be taking a break until the spring semester starts in January. See you then!
