Beatrix Potter was an artist of incredible talent who had a deep appreciation for nature and drawing. She is the writer and illustrator of one of the most adored children’s books of all time, The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902).

She found a wealth of inspiration for her drawings in the British countryside and in animals and plants but also for her work as a scientist, farmer, conservationist and story teller.

Tutor Frances Stanfield will take you through Beatrix Potter’s art process and how her playful drawings come alive on the page. You will also find inspiration in how Potter looked at and connected with nature and her environment, in particular, the Lake District. It was here that she bought additional land to conserve it with the money she made from her books, including those that she self published. She self published originally because her books were rejected by publishers but also because they didn’t agree with her insisting on a number of things such as, the books must be small - for small hands.

You will need:

• A Pencil
• Paper
• Rubber/Eraser
• Frances will also show you how to bring your drawings alive with watercolours so if you can have some watercolours ready, preferably a box (pan) of watercolours
• A brush
• A black fine liner pen or ink pen (and ink)
• Some thick paper such as watercolour paper
• A small water pot
• Some kitchen roll or toilet paper

If you don’t have watercolours, don’t worry, a pencil will do! You can also try colouring pencils instead

This class is suitable for ALL LEVELS

Your ticket includes access to the live class and 7 days access to the recording.

Everyone is welcome to join this Pay-What-You-Can class. We suggest a donation of £20 . However, we understand that may not be possible for everybody. Please be honest and pay what you can afford so that we may continue to offer our sessions on a donation basis.
