Change That Lasts is our plan for a future where all survivors get the right response to domestic abuse the very first time and a future where communities work to end abuse by challenging unhelpful myths and stereotypes that normalise or condone abuse.
The Change That Lasts Ask Me scheme works by training people in communities to start conversations, break the silence and raise awareness about domestic abuse. This isn't a workplace training. Instead, Ask Me explores what we can all do, as friends, as siblings, as family members and or in any other community spaces we might belong to outside of any paid or voluntary role we might have.
We want to help you create supportive communities where survivors feel able to speak out and ask for help, to enable them to access specialist support and take their first steps towards safety.
This course is an equal split of pre-reading for you to do in your own time and follow up Zoom workshops where we discuss, build on and practice what you have just learned.
You will have access to the pre-reading one week before each workshop and the workshop dates for this course are....
Week 1 - Tuesday 28th February (6pm to 8.30pm) What is domestic abuse and the role of communities.
Week 2 - Tuesday 7th March (6pm to 8.30pm) Gender, victim blaming and experiences of abuse.
Week 3 - Tuesday 14th March (6pm to 8.30pm) Responding effectively and community power.
Please only sign up for this course if you are able to attend all 3 workshops and able to find 2 - 3 hours before each workshop to do the pre-reading. Additionally, this is not a series of webinars, but instead a discussion and activity based course. Please only sign up if you are able to attend with a working camera and microphone from a private and confidential space. The sensitive nature of domestic abuse means this course is not suitable to be completed in a public space such as an open plan office, library or where others may overhear the discussions between yourself and other participants.
If you would prefer a course without any pre-reading, we have a course starting on Wednesday 18th January (10am to 2.30pm each week) and a course starting on Saturday 28th January (1pm to 5pm each week)
This training is provided on a free basis to community members. We do however reserve the right to cancel individual spaces or whole courses for reasons including, but not limited to, staff availability, to meet organisational or project objectives or to ensure a good quality training experience for attendees. Where courses or individual spaces are cancelled, we will get in touch with those affected.
Also check out other Workshops in Online, Virtual Events in Online.
