From 2017 ~ “PORTFOLIO ALLOCATION”

Gary Ball, a very popular instructor within the BetterInvesting community, discussed the importance of establishing investment objectives and setting a strategy that matches those objectives. He told us about diversification of a stock portfolio in terms of industry, company size and number of stocks.

Gary looked at the historical risk and returns of the major asset classes of stocks, bonds, and cash, and covered the merits of a balanced portfolio and the effects of diversification.  The webinar will also included a practical example of an investment portfolio that can be used to support your retirement.

GARY BALL has been investing for over 40 years, and has been featured in SmartMoney, Consumers Digest, and Fortune magazines and has also taught investment classes at the University of Washington's business school.

From 2017 ~ “EXCHANGE TRADED FUNDS (ETFs)”

In less than 20 years Exchange Traded Funds, aka ETF’s, have gone from being ‘newcomers’ to having over 2 Billion dollars invested in them.  ETF’s can be Low Cost, Low Maintenance investments, but there are pros and cons to them. Find out what an ETF is, how they work, and when you should use them.

Allen also discussed what types to NOT use.

ALLEN HOLDSWORTH is a founding Director of the Illowa Chapter, is a past president of the BIVA Board, and has belonged to an investment club for over 20 years. Allen teaches many different classes for both his own chapter and nationally. He also teaches a 16-week personal investing class at a community college. In the last six years, he has conducted almost 80 portfolio reviews for clubs. He was a financial planner/stockbroker for seven years before retiring and now lives on a family farm in Western Illinois.

From 2018 ~ “CONFERENCE CALLS AND WHAT TO ASK INVESTOR RELATIONS”

This is an informative webinar about "Using Conference Calls and What to Ask Investor Relations".  Gary Ball, a very popular instructor within the BetterInvesting community, explains how to use company conference calls to increase your knowledge of the companies in your portfolio.  You will learn how to contact companies and with whom to talk to answer your investment questions.

Gary discusses typical questions to ask Investor Relations personnel ~whether over the phone or in person at Investor's Fairs, Expo, etc.  You will also learn how to analyze the answers you are given to determine if you are looking at short-term problems (which may represent buying opportunities) or long-term problems (which may represent a reason to sell).

GARY BALL joined BetterInvesting in 1984.  He is a past president of the Puget Sound Chapter and has taught BetterInvesting tools for many years.  Since 1991 he has been a popular presenter at BetterInvesting National Conventions (aka BINC).
