About the Presenter:  

Terri Couwenhoven MS is a certified sex educator (CSE) and author who specializes in designing and implementing sexuality programs and materials for people with intellectual disabilities, families and professionals. She is the author of 4 books and speaks nationally. To learn more about Terri visit www.terricouwenhoven.com 

About the Workshop:  

These workshops are modified and designed specifically for preteens and teens with intellectual disabilities who are just beginning or in the midst of puberty changes. Parent(s) and child attend and learn together in a comfortable, safe, and fun environment. Concrete teaching methods (videos, slides, pictures, games, activities) are used to improve comprehension and help parents become more comfortable and confident, helping their tween understand body changes, self-care, and appropriate social behavior.  



Workshop for Boys (10:00-12:00)

This two-hour workshop is designed for parents and their sons ages 11-14. After attending, boys will be able to: 

Describe the physical and emotional changes that happen to boys during puberty, manage showering &amp; hygiene, identify social and safety rules related to boundaries and private body parts.  

  

Workshop for Girls (1:00-3:00)

This two-part program is designed for mothers and/or other significant female adults and their daughters ages 10-14.  

After attending the workshop participants will be able to: 

Describe the physical and emotional changes girls experience during puberty, manage menstruation &amp; hygiene 

Identify social and safety rules related to boundaries and private body parts  

This event is intended for individuals with Down Syndrome and related disabilities and their immediate families. Space is limited and going fast!
