- **Event Description**: Our monthly meeting is this Monday, January 12, at 6pm, at the Brice Prairie Conservation Association (BPCA) clubhouse on Brice Prairie, W8441 Lytle Road, Onalaska (<--Google Map link).  Drive out County Highway Z past Red Pines and just keep on going on Z till you are almost (~500 ft) from the end of County Z at the Lytles Road intersection.  We're meeting there to evaluate the site for hosting our Wisconsin Division of the IWLA meeting on April 18.

We are featuring a presentation on dam removal and "rewilding" on the upper Mississippi River.  In our area, most of us support the dual purpose mission established by the 1986 Water Resources Development Act of a River that serves both a commercial navigation and an ecological mission (albeit one direly in need of habitat restoration!).  Nonetheless, we often hear a casual remark to "just take out the dams".  Well, what if?  What would happen?  Turns out, its happening on our River, right in our backyard, just a little ways upstream in the Twin Cities!  All the issues of massive release of stored sediments, fish and wildlife adaptation and competing human uses are being debated right now.  Our meeting presentation this month will give us a sneak peak into the controversy about removing dams and restoring or "rewilding" the upper Mississippi Gorge, which runs between Minneapolis and St Paul.
