GPTC 24/25 Season: "stains" by Sarah Cho

Stains is a coming-of-age comedy about a 14-year-old girl whose impoverished, struggling family experiences her first period as a burden due to their limited resources. It is a powerful, autobiographical play about growing up poor, female, and Korean-American in Los Angeles in the late 1990s. The play moves from grounded reality to flights of adolescent fantasy as its young heroine finds unexpected support from a pop-cultural icon who serves as her “period guide” through a painfully awkward rite of passage.

stains was developed as a part of the 2022 GPTC New Play Festival.
