- **Event Description**: Our rivers, lakes, and streams are under threat from aquatic invaders—organisms that outcompete native species, clog waterways, and damage fragile ecosystems. In this presentation, OASISS staff will highlight the aquatic invasive species that pose the greatest risk to our region, including zebra and quagga mussels, invasive snails, and aquatic plants.

You’ll learn how these species spread, how to identify them, and what proactive steps we can all take—from proper boat cleaning to shoreline monitoring—to help protect our waters. The talk will also highlight regional efforts by OASISS and its partners to safeguard aquatic habitats in the face of these growing threats.

About the Sunday Speaker Series:
Each Sunday from May through October, we welcome a new guest presenter into our Apple House to share fascinating stories and insights into the natural, cultural, and historical landscape of our region. Topics range widely—from Indigenous history and pioneer technologies to Victorian gardening, food traditions, conservation efforts, and beyond. Presentations are informal, engaging, and typically run about 45–60 minutes.
