SAX AMONG FRIENDS
Music That Got Us Through WW2
A beautifully put-together show that speaks for itself. In these troubled times with significant wars happening on spaceship Earth, it’s as important, or perhaps more important than ever, to remember those who lived through similar times. Anyone who has attended any performances of Sax Among Friends led by Don Wade knows that he is a natural storyteller. He draws from his font of knowledge and experiences, peppering the stories with lighthearted humour. Oh, and you might notice that he plays sweet sounding saxophones, too! Don’s talented entourage for this show features renowned local chanteuse, Yanti, along with Al Crossley, with his bright and breezy style of playing the keys, Summerland’s own Graham Walker, holding the bottom end of the band – on the bass that is, and “he’s everywhere, he’s everywhere,” Mr. Drumsticks himself, Rod Rose. Coupled with Don’s often whimsical style of storytelling, prepare to be enchanted by Yanti’s evocative style and have your heartstrings tugged by the beautiful and sometimes haunting melodies and memories that were brought to us during and on the heels of World War II. So: the stories come from Don’s own early years when he lived with his – as you’ll find out – very wise grandmother. The vocals come from an angel. I mean Yanti. Don’t miss this unique show!
