In 1950, Dr. Allen created an international youth organization to foster intercultural knowledge and understanding as the cornerstone for creating peace in a world that had seen too much war. In 1979, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for this work. The organization continues to thrive worldwide, and many young people in the region have participated in its "villages" and exchange programs.
