Paul Loether has become well known throughout southern New England an engaging, Pete Seeger-style folksinger, songwriter, and storyteller. Singer-songwriter Jim O’Sullivan blends the gentle resonance of guitar and the dulcet sonority of the mountain dulcimer with a love for folk-rock traditions.
Paul performed as a founding member of the Farmington, CT-based duo (later trio) “Bookends” from 1998-2007. During 2009-2018, he was a lead vocalist, stand-up bass player, guitarist, and banjoist for the popular Metro DC-area band, Silver Strings MD (see:

Paul’s expressive vocals and “melded” Elizabeth Cotton/Merle Travis/Maybelle Carter-style fingerpicking cover of a wide array of traditional and contemporary folk artists—from Stephen Foster, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Phil Ochs, and Tom Paxton, to Bill Staines, Nanci Griffith, John McCutcheon, Carrie Newcomer, and Townes Van Zandt. His usually topical originals feature clever, well-crafted, and often humorous lyrics (see:

Jim’s music carries echoes of the 60’s while weaving in modern textures, offering songs that feel both familiar and refreshingly new. An accomplished guitarist and mountain dulcimer player, his warm presence and reflective style create a space that draws listeners in. Online, Jim shares originals and covers through Bandcamp and YouTube, keeping his music close to those who can’t be there in person (see:
).
Thoughtful and unhurried, Jim's lyrics linger on the beauty and struggles of everyday life. Jim will appear in the upcoming film "Permanent Records" (2026), busking an original song written for the screen (see:
).
