Kilimanjaro - Lemosho Route (10 day)

Let your journey to the rooftop of Africa begin here! 5895 metres (19,341 feet) tall, stands the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Mount Kilimanjaro! The two main peaks include Kibo, which is the higher one out of the two and set as the main goal for most trekkers from around the world; and secondly, Mawenzi with its jagged points and pinnacles, a peak that is no longer attempted.

The adventure up Mount Kilimanjaro is an exploration, not merely a climb, one that allows you to live a lot closer to nature. It is the highest mountain on earth whose summit is accessible to any committed walker without requiring technical skills, experience or mountaineering equipment.

Although this mountain lies only three degrees south of the equator, one can encounter varieties of vegetation within a short period of time; ranging from the forest, heather and moorland, alpine desert to the snow.

The Lemosho route is one of the longer and quieter routes on Kilimanjaro, allowing more time for acclimatisation and a higher chance of success.

Route

Lemosho route identified as one of the variations of Londrossi routes crosses over the collapsed volcanic crater known as the Shira Plateau. It is an isolated route on the initial days providing trekkers with a solitary experience, with limited individuals to be seen around. This is a huge advantage for those who want to avoid the distraction of other people. However its appeal is growing to a larger number of individuals, and it is a fairly recent version of the traditional Shira route. Registration for both Lemosho and Shira takes place at Londrossi Gate (2250m), however both trails divide thereafter. Similarly to the Machame route, Lemosho provides the trekker with great altitude acclimatisation, and the fact that the starting point is at a lower elevation adds to this.
