This weekend was to be our annual ride to Jasper but as life gets in the way, planning has changed a little and need to postpone to another date. More importantly, the weather is not favourable for Saturday and Sunday in Jasper. However, the forecast in southern Alberta is much better on Saturday but Sunday will still be “damp”.
Therefore I am planning to ride to Writing on Stone Provincial Park this weekend and camping at 8 Flags campground in Milk River. The campground will accommodate all of our group. For those that don’t want or will NOT camp, there are accommodation’s in Milk River, Sandstone Motel and maybe others or you may continue on back to Calgary but expect a long day riding.
As before, we meet at 09:00 and KSU 09:30 from the Petro Canada near Aldersyde, our route will take us south to Ft. McLeod and Cardston where we will head east to Milk River. Maybe stop for a few photos in Whiskey Gap and Del Bonita. There are a few restaurants in Milk River and I can say the Sandstone Motels restaurant has decent food.
After lunch we can set up camp and continue the remaining 40 or so KM to Writing on Stone where we can spend some time chasing rattle snakes and the elusive perfect snap shot. Really, be mindful of rattle snakes. Return to Millk River for the evening festivities (my plan is supper and beer).
Sunday we will return to Calgary via back roads through Taber, Lomond, Vulcan, and possibly Mossleigh.
There may also be some minor changes to the route/schedule as we go (typical of my style of riding) but this is the basic plan.
As always ALL are welcome
