About the event

Voices Unheard Program
As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding, the Ogdensburg History Museum, in partnership with the Ogdensburg Public Library and the Fort la Presentation Association, is proud to announce a special three-week reading and discussion series titled "Voices Unheard: Exploring the Forgotten Groups of the American Revolution."
Led by City Historian Julie Madlin, this series invites the public to look beyond the traditional narrative of the Revolutionary War. Participants will explore the complex experiences of those often left out of history books: Native Americans, Women, Loyalists, and African Americans.
Event Details
The program consists of three sessions where participants will discuss selected essays over the course of three weeks.
When: Sundays — March 15th, 22nd, and 29th
Time: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Where: Ogdensburg History Museum, 206 Ford St, Ogdensburg, NY
Cost: Free and open to the public
A Local Commemoration of America 250
This series serves as an official local commemoration of America 250, the upcoming semiquincentennial of the United States. By examining the diverse perspectives of those who lived through the conflict—whether they fought for independence, remained loyal to the Crown, or sought their own personal freedom—the program aims to provide a more complete and nuanced understanding of our shared heritage.

"History is rarely black and white," says City Historian Julie Madlin. "By reading these essays and engaging in open discussion, we can better understand the difficult choices and sacrifices made by all people living in the colonies during this turbulent era."

How to Participate
The series is free, but pre-registration is encouraged to ensure all participants receive copies of the reading materials. Members of the community can sign up at the Ogdensburg History Museum or online at www.ogdensburghistorymuseum.com.
