As the officers attempted to enter the home, the suspect opened fire, fatally wounding Corporals Jones and Gardner. Corporal Marquez was critically injured and remained unconscious in the hospital until his passing four days later.

To honor his service and sacrifice, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at sunrise at the Odessa Police Department. The wreath will remain at OPD’s Memorial Statue throughout the day before being respectfully retired at sundown.

The Odessa community is encouraged to visit the Memorial Statue to pay their respects and remember Corporal Marquez’s bravery and dedication.
