Elephant Tree Discovery Trail & Wind Caves Trailhead
Discover the rare elephant tree, found only in California’s Anza-Borrego Desert, along this short nature trail highlighting the desert’s remarkable plant adaptations. From here, a quick hike leads to the Wind Caves, where dramatic sandstone formations reveal pockets and holes carved by centuries of wind erosion. Please note: access requires a high-clearance vehicle, no dogs allowed, and carpooling is highly encouraged. Leaves from IVDM parking lot at 8:00AM (1hr 45 min drive from museum)
