The lockdown was really the first time that I've been in one place consistently.”In November of 2019, she moved from Nashville to Kingston, New York, where she lives in the woodsy fringes of town, immersed in nature.“There's a little stream outside. There are foxes and owls and deer and all sorts of little critters around here. It's a beautiful place to connect with the seasons and the wildlife.”Now, the impulse to emerge from isolation is inspiring her to reconnect with people in a new way.“I was touring and recording a lot up until March 2020, when everything shut down,” she recalls. “I don't know if it was a conscious decision of trying to connect more deeply, but I think something in my body actually settled in getting to be still in that way. And not just still, but still and in community.”Unlike New York, Nashville or LA, Kingston wasn’t chock full of people in the music industry. So her day-to-day life there gives her a chance to interact with people that feels like cross pollination.“That was really the portal that opened me to expanding what I'm doing now.”As she looks ahead to 2026, she’s planning a new kind of tour inspired by Cover Crop, the new episodic filmed series she’s creating.“This Spring, we’ll be bringing musical performances to small farms across North America to celebrate and explore the various ways we nurture our environments—whether through food, land, community, or music,” she says. “Each episode features conversations, songs, and little wisdoms through real life stories of farmers, community members, and guest musicians.”The idea came after she started volunteering on the farm across the road from her. “Not only did I learn about cover crops, I got kind of obsessively excited about this concept of: What are we doing to actually nurture our environments?”She recalls one day in particular when she was harvesting nasturtiums by herself in a greenhouse for an entire day, taking each little edible flower off and putting them in baskets. “At the end of the day, I was ecstatic. Because the connection to the earth, especially during that time when a lot of us were feeling a sense of disconnect, farming felt very connective. It felt deeply rooted in something real.”This sparked an idea for a new approach to live performances as she began planning a 2026 tour.“I always have a tendency toward finding deeper connection,” says Amber. ““I think house concerts are so special because it invites deeper connection and more community. House concerts allow the space for everybody in the room to connect with each other, and for touring artists to actually feel the community and space and friendships.”So for her 2026 Cover Crop Tour, she's reaching out to fans to collaborate on a series of shows where she'll be bringing musical performances to intimate environments across North America to celebrate and explore the various ways we nurture our environments.
