𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐧 𝐒𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐝 (𝟗𝟑𝟕𝐦, 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐫𝐨) - 𝐡𝐚𝐭-𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥
Beinn Sgulaird rises from the sea at the head of Loch Creran. A traverse of its high-level undulating ridge affords splendid views of both coast and hills intertwined in this fascinating landscape.
Start from the lay-by near Druimavuic at NN008451. Take the track which leads around the back of Druimavuic Ho, through a wood and on to the open hillside. Stay on the track, climbing to about 160m alt. at NN014445. The route now ascends the SW ridge to a small summit at 488m then continues rising E to a summit at 863m. The ridge turns NE to Meall Garbh at 848m and curves N up to the main summit of Beinn Sgulaird.
*Descend NE at first. The ridge twist and turns, then heads E down to a small lochan on a col, then up to the small summit of Stob Gaibhre, 684mˡʳ, 690mᵉˣ. Continue the descent E for about 1.2Km to a ring contour at NN075467 then head N down a steep spur to reach the track in Glen Ure. Follow the track W down Glen Ure to the bridge at NN045480**. Cross the bridge and follow the track around Glenure Lodge to the estate approach road, then NW to finish at Elleric CP. Transport required. 10mins from start
* For a quicker descent from the summit of Beinn Sgulaird:-
Descend NNE to a small col, then turn NNW away from the main ridge, curving down around a shallow couloir. Turn WSW and descend the slope, rocky and steep at first. Aim to converge with the Allt Coire na Capullᵉˣ, and cross a fence-lineᵉˣ to reach a Sheepfoldᵉˣ at the bottom of the slope. Curve SW towards a deciduous wood. Pass down through the trees to reach the track just S of Taraphocain. Follow the track SW to the public road and back to the start.
**The need for transport at Elleric may be obviated with a pleasant walk back to Druimavuic:- Ignore the bridge at NN045480 and continue W on the track to Loch Baile Mhic Chailein. Curving SW, it follows the left bank of the River Creran and joins the public road which leads back to the start.
