Proud, Black, and Healthy - Family Photoshoot, Health Walk, & Wellness Fair
Come join Raising Black Boys to Become Great Men and partners on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Oakland, CA, for a day of celebration and wellness! This unique and free family event will transition from three different segments. Our first segment presents free family photoshoots in partnership with the acclaimed spoken word artist Prentice Powell to capture the melanated and historical moment, celebrating our rich Black heritage.
The second segment of this marvelous community event consists of a professionally led Health Walk that exudes Black pride and health to the streets.
Our last segment begins where our Health Walk ends at Calabash Restaurant for a dynamic Wellness Fair that promotes healthy living in the Black community by showcasing brilliant health professionals and health vendors.

Info: Join Raising Black Boys to Become Great Men (RBB) for a historic Black Family Flash Mob Photoshoot at Lake Merritt in Oakland, California! This event features Oakland's own spoken word artist, Prentice Powell, and is part of our Proud, Black, and Healthy initiative. Our goal is to make a significant impact in the Bay Area by celebrating Black pride through transformative imagery that challenges stereotypical perceptions and narratives surrounding Black communities.
In line with our commitment to valuing the community, RBB has partnered with talented photographers and videographers from the community-based nonprofit collectives Black Film Guild and The Plug MGMT Film Collective to beautifully capture this outstanding display of Black excellence.
