Featuring the music of Sweet Honey in the Rock and the Danza Nacional de Cuba, Eyes of the Rainbow creates a beautiful tapestry, interweaving Assata's life story, her politics, and her spiritual connection to Yoruba Orisha Oya, the AfroCuban goddess of the rainbow. Gloria Rolando, director of the film, has been a member of the Cuban national film institute for 20 years and now heads her own independent filmmaking group. She dedicates Eyes of the Rainbow to all women who struggle for a better world.We encourage attendees to read some of Assata Shakur's writing prior to the movie night.
