The Black Teacher Project invites Bay Area Black educators to join us for an evening of connection, purpose, and celebration. At this joyous gathering, you’ll share libations, build community with other Black school-based educators in the area, and learn how you can get involved in the Black Teacher Project. Come through! We’ll have activities, raffles, good food, and great people.
What You Can Expect:
Kia Walton is currently the Director of the Harbour-8 Community Resilience Center (CRC) at Pogo Park’s Harbour-8 Park in Richmond, CA. A former middle school math teacher at Elmhurst United Middle School in Oakland, CA, Kia’s passion for education continues as he helps educate and prepare the community for climate and other emergencies with the CRC. A member of BTP’s Fellowship Cohort 1, Kia has remained involved with BTP for over a decade, participating and volunteering in Black Teacher Leadership and Sustainability Institutes and Black Teacher Wellness Convenings, as well as designing and facilitating Culturally Responsive Teaching Workshops.
Abdul-Haqq Khalifah has been a Lead Coach within Oakland Unified School District's New Teacher Support & Development Department for the last four years. He's taught almost exclusively in elementary schools in Oakland for seventeen years and has been part of OUSD since 2014. Khalifah has participated in numerous BTP functions over the years and co-facilitated a handful of BTP sessions, most recently the Culturally Responsive Teaching series.
