- **Event Description**: Combine geology and gift shopping in a 3.75-mile one-way downhill ramble as we visit the Hayward fault plus interesting rocks and terrain.About this EventIn this outdoor adventure, designed for public transit, we'll start at the stairs entering Montclair Park from Mountain Boulevard and end near the Rockridge BART station just as Rockridge Holidaze begins at 4 pm. This highly modified landscape still displays its deeper geological setting to trained eyes. We'll trace the Hayward Fault through Montclair into the valley of Temescal Creek and Lake Temescal, then rejoin the creek farther downstream as we near College Avenue. Be sure to arrange your transportation to and from the walk, as this is not a round trip. I'm Andrew Alden, author of the Oakland Geology blog (deepoakland.com) and the book Deep Oakland: How Geology Shaped a City. My mission is to root Oaklanders in their world-class landscape and show them their city in a new light.
