- **Event Description**: Create unique collage poems using words from vintage books and magazines. A fun, accessible 2-hour session with artist Rose Crespo.About this EventAbout the Workshop What is found poetry? Found poetry is a text-based scavenger hunt for the storytelling self. Practically, this style of poetry is most similar to collage, where poems are "found" by searching vintage books and magazines for inspiring words and phrases, cutting them out, and assembling them into a unique poem. This practice emphasizes the value of bringing a curious and unexpecting eye to "what already is" as well as trusting the emergent process of bringing together distinct pieces and parts as an expression of wholeness. Found poetry often asks us to courageously and creatively navigate the constraints of how we choose to communicate an idea, emotion, or a reflection of our own truth while working with pre-existing text. Curiously stretching the limits of linear language is strongly encouraged—coherence is not required. This workshop is held in conjunction with the themes of the analog photo exhibition and book launch of "Reasons to Be" by Aidan Jung at Dictée Gallery. Similar to Aidan's focus on "recognizing the perseverance of beauty and truth within fracture," this workshop will center the themes of grief, paradox, as well as the possibility of holding what has been broken with greater tenderness.Who is this workshop for? This workshop is open to all who have ever wanted to write and felt intimidated by a blank page. All materials are provided, just bring yourself and your capacity for inquiry (doubt and discomfort are also warmly welcomed).About the Instructor Rose Crespo is a trans non-binary mixed Diasporican poet and movement artist from the Appalachian mountains. Core to their creative process as both a writer and dancer is an investigation of paradox and an endless devotion to the understanding that we do together what we cannot do alone.

"description": "Dictéenames a critical relationship between language, power, and embodiment. Originally published in 1982 by Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, the work occupies a singular position in experimental practice, challenging the assumption that language functions primarily as expression. For artist and gallery owner Tae Ha,Dictéeoperates as both reference and method. The gallery’s name signals a commitment to practices where form is not predetermined but emerges from necessity. Following Cha’s engagement with histories of rupture—colonialism, exile, and linguistic displacement—the gallery views the body as the primary site where these forces are registered.Central to our inquiry is the moment before language coheres: the breath, hesitation, murmur, and gesture. These forms resist containment, suggesting modes of knowledge that exceed syntax. AtDictée, we understand art not as static objects, but as processes responsive to histories and conditions that cannot be fully stabilized. Our programming gestures toward the tension between discipline and resistance, legibility and opacity—where meaning is not resolved but continually negotiated."
